In Praise of Samples

I consider myself a creative person with a good imagination.  However, I’d like to let you in on a secret: I have great difficulty looking at a 2″ x 6″ swatch of fabric and imagining what it’s going to look like on my chair, sofa, or wall. Especially my wall. It’s as bad as those little paint chips; they make me cry in frustration. I’m the person who ALWAYS buys multiples of those little sample pots of paint.

So my mood board is done.  My color scheme is chosen. I pin my window treatment swatch dutifully to the wall and I squint, imagining what it will look like.  I squint, I scrunch, I close one eye.  Doesn’t help.

Enter the 1/4 yard sample.  Now this is a thing whose time has come. Like when I use the sample paint pots, I KNOW that the fabric that I’m going to use is going to work. If you think you like a fabric for a specific application, get a big 1/4 yard piece. Trust me. And you can thank me later.

Huge Difference.  No squinting required and I love the look.  My cornice will be gorgeous…
